Maruti Suzuki Ertiga Summary

The new-gen Ertiga moves to the new Heartect platform which also used in the Swift, Dzire, Wagon r and Baleno. You can feel Ertiga's new bold styling which includes a new grille with horizontal louvers flanked by sleeker headlamps. The headlight units get projectors and LED daytime running lights. The bumpers get stylish elements like the raked damper around the fog lamps and contrasting black surrounds. The silhouette retains the floating roof design similar to the Swift. At the rear, there is a revised tailgate and L-shaped taillights extending to the D-pillar. The new model has also grown in dimensions. The length has increased by 100mm to 4395mm. At 1735mm, it is 40mm wider than the older car and at 1690mm, it is also 5mm taller. However, the wheelbase remains the same at 2,740mm. The MPV now gets 15-inch alloy wheels.

The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga is available with the new K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine that generates around 103bhp of power with 138Nm of torque. The new petrol replaces the existing 1.4-litre engine. The 1.5-litre petrol also gets a 4-speed automatic gearbox. The CNG-petrol variant uses the same 1.5-litre petrol engine but without the mild-hybrid tech. It has a claimed efficiency of 26.08km/kg but the performance drops to 92PS and 122Nm. The diesel version gets the tried and tested 1.3-litre unit. Both manual variants get a 5-speed transmission as standard. We expect an AMT for the diesel variant to come soon.

On the inside, the cabin gets a modular layout. New Ertiga gets a new 6.8-inch infotainment screen on the center console with all the features available in the Swift and Baleno. The flat-bottom steering wheel is retained and adds a sporty touch to the cabin. The dual-tone cabin with wooden inserts gets ample storage space and more room than the outgoing car. Interiors also get large horizontal air-con vents, center driver’s armrest and a twin-pod instrument cluster.

On the safety front it is equipped with safety features such as dual airbags, high speed warning alert, front seat belt with pre-tensioners and force limiters, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, ABS with EBD and brake assist and reverse parking sensors as standard fitment across all variants.

Also automatic variant variants provide some features like ESP and hill hold for safety.

Variants: Maruti’s MPV can be had in four trims: LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+. The top two trims have an option for a CNG kit as well.

Seating Capacity: It offers seating for up to seven passengers.

Boot Space: It has a 209-litre boot capacity that can be extended to 550-litres by tumbling down the third row.

Engine and Transmission: The MPV is gets a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild hybrid technology (generating 103PS and 137Nm) and is available with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque converter transmission. The MPV also receives a CNG kit, which produces 88PS and 121.5Nm.

Features: The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga has a seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, paddle shifters, cruise control, auto headlights, and auto air conditioning.

Safety: There are dual airbags available for Passenger safety, ABS with EBD and brake assist, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat anchorages. Higher trims of the MPV get a total of four airbags, electronic stability program (ESP) and hill-hold assist.

Rivals: The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga takes the fight with the Maruti XL6, Toyota Innova Crysta, Kia Carens and Mahindra Marazzo.
